Ted Pestorius is management officer and director of the Management Office at the proposed National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID). Mr. Pestorius has been with CDC since 1990 and has served as management officer for the National Center for Preparedness, Detection, and Control of Infectious Diseases, deputy director for management for CDC’s Division of Viral and Rickettsial Diseases (DVRD), and acting associate director for management and operations at CDC’s National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Preventions (NCHSTP). He also has served as deputy associate director for management and operations/chief, Financial and Administrative Services Office at NCHSTP; deputy chief, Prevention Support Office at NCHSTP/OD; project officer for the Program Development and Support Branch, Division of STD Prevention/NCHSTP; and project officer, Community Assistance, for the Planning and National Partners Branch, Division of HIV Prevention/NCHSTP.
Mr. Pestorius served a 3-month detail in 2002 for the Global AIDS Program in Ethiopia, where he served as the acting deputy chief of party. In 2010, he began serving a 3-month detail in Ghana fighting polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
Early in his public health career, Mr. Pestorius served as director of the Connecticut STD Control Program and as supervisor, Riverside STD Clinic in Houston, Texas. He also was a disease intervention specialist in Maryland and Illinois. While working in an STD clinic on the west side of Chicago, he educated persons infected with syphilis and HIV about their disease and performed partner notification.
Mr. Pestorius is a 1989 graduate of the University of Texas, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history. He has served on Project Accelerated CDC Extramural Awards Solution (ACES), Grants Workstream Champion for CDC’s Procurement and Grants Office in 2004. He has received numerous awards, including NCHSTP’s Honor Awards for Program Administrative Services in 2003 and the DHHS Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service in 2002. Mr. Pestorius has been a member of the Watsonian Society since 1992 and served as their President in 2007.
